Barangay Labe

In 1959, Barangay Labe was once just a sitio of Barangay Tiayon.

It was known as Sitio Linobo due to its abundance of corn grains at that time. A year later, the residents noticed an increase in the number of school-aged children in the barangay. The community decided to establish a school and a church through the resolute efforts of the parents. Ms. Guzman was the first teacher and organized the first Parent and Teacher Association in the community. During the 1962 barangay election, Mr. Jose Lirazan ran for Barangay Kagawad in which he became the first person to win from Sitio Linobo. He passed a resolution to convert Sitio Linobo into a barangay upon his term. It took seven (7) years before the resolution was approved.

On May 20, 1969, sitio Linobo was formally converted into a barangay through R.A. 7160 and they named it Barangay Labe.

The people named the area “LABE” because the people usually described the area as “Labing Bukira”, and “Labing Habuga”, it is because of the steep and mountainous terrain of the barangay.

Another reason is that “LABE” represents the initials of the four (4) families who piloted the barangay:
Jose Lirazan, Remedio Alon, Anastasio Bahian, and Teodolo Estrao.

In the same year, Barangay officials were appointed with Jose Lirazan as the Barangay Captain and Remedio Alon, Anastasio Bahian, Antonio Redela, Perenoi Benondo, Felix Alvarez, and Teodolo Estrao as his councilors.
